Witney Rifle Club

SMALL BORE  -  FULL BORE  -  PRACTICAL RIFLE -  PRACTICAL SHOTGUN

The Witney Rifle Club (founded approx. 1927, originally Witney British Legion Miniature Rifle Club) (more club history) is one of the two founding clubs of the Witney Projectile Range.  Despite our name, we shoot almost anything that requires a propellant to send a projectile down a barrel, including black powder, long barrel pistols, rifles (small bore at the range and full bore at Bisley or another suitable range) and Section 1 Shotgun.  Practical Shotgun requires a Section 1 shotgun (i.e. something which will hold more than 2+1 cartridges).  We compete in local and national competitions and receive medals from most competitions we enter.  If you have an interest in target shooting, practical shooting (shotgun or mini-rifle) or just want to do a bit of plinking why not come and see us - send a message from [HERE].  We meet at the range on Thursday evenings (also Thursday afternoons but can’t take visitors at that time).

Practical Shooting (also called Tactical Shooting) which is a competitive sport focusing on real-world shooting scenarios. Participants employ rifles in stages mimicking various situations. They move through courses of fire, engaging multiple targets while emphasising speed and accuracy. Governing bodies like the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) oversee this sport, categorizing shooters by skill level and firearm type. Practical shooting fosters firearm safety and marksmanship skills. It's a popular sport that combines precision shooting with time pressure, attracting firearm enthusiasts and competitive shooters globally, providing an exhilarating and challenging experience.  See [HERE] for more details.

Practical score card

Full Bore shooting has toe be done at a suitable range.  The club can arrange the necessary training for full members to obtain the Safe Shooter Card (which is required to shoot on military ranges (Bisley is a military range, though run by civilians and does require the Safe Shooter Card).  Distances we will shoot will be between 100 yards to 1000 yards.  The further away the target is the more you have to consider and understand the balistics of the projectile.

Witney Rifle Club are affiliated with Oxfordshire Rifle Association, Oxford Shooting AcademyNRA and NSRA.

Members are able to rent a range of rifles from OSA, which is an ideal chance to try before you buy.  For further details on the range of rifles available, see https://oxsa.uk/our-guns. Speak to Mark or Joe for more information on OSA.
